Knee

Okay, so for those of you who were curious to hear the results of my MRI, I thought I'd let you know I got a pretty good report. He basically diagnosed it as post-injury knee degeneration. This was both relieving and disconcerting; it's hard to be in (sometimes severe) pain and then not get a solid, definitive diagnoses. Anyway, he basically said there was quite a bit of tearing/fissuring/inflammation in my cartilage (and swelling as a result) most likely from previous injuries I sustained back in my soccer days, and more recently just by being a huge klutz. He told me that with someone my age they tend to steer clear of surgery unless absolutely necessary, so for now it will be treated with anti-inflammatory drugs, this fancy knee brace, and physical therapy. (And I did mention the whole right hip being off causing left knee pain and he said that while familial structural problems are fairly common, I didn't show any signs of that...)

Serah,
Good news and .... well news.
Dora just had surgery to clean up one of her knees from years of abuse like you sustained. The problem with surgery is when they take that torn cartilage out is that they can't put good cartilage back in...
Knowing what is wrong and what to do about it is always better than not knowing...
So your next step is ... therapy, knee brace, and anti-inflammatories... you can do this and you CAN get BETTER!

Thanks, I hope so! The knee brace and anti-inflammatories are already helping some - at least mentally:)

Sorry to hear that you are in so much pain with your knee injury. Knowing the extent of your injury is often more healing than not knowing and suspecting a much worse self diagonosis, although it seems to me that you have a great deal of damage which will not be easy to deal with.

I had a knee operation a few years back where the Doctor removed both cartlidge and ligament. It took a long time to recover and my knee still feels undependable at times.

Although you will probably have surgery some day, hopefully the knee brace and anti-inflams will help delay that for years.

God's speed on relief.

It's amazing how much medical speak you ooze when this stuff starts happening to you, isn't it? I'm so glad you finally started seeing a specialist. 'Cause you are special.

Max & Lola - Thank you for the well wishes. This has been coming on for quite some time now, and was majorly exacerbated by my recent trip, so it was definitely nice to hear an actual diagnoses. I had pegged it for much worse in my mind, I think.

Mommy, you are the special one. And I don't just mean in that Olympic way.
